The Virginia Beach City Council, by a 6 to 4 vote, adopted a resolution Monday declaring itself a “Second Amendment Constitutional City.” It stated “its continued commitment to support all provisions of the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia, including the right of the people to keep and bear arms.”
With all due respect to law enforcement officials who responded to the VB massacre, it is obvious to anyone who is unbiased that no response time can beat the response time of the people already at ground zero and being shot at by a shooter. Had those victims been armed, the casualties would undoubtedly have been lower. In the worst case scenario, they would have at least had a better chance than they did.
If public safety is the real issue, then the real solution would be to allow law abiding citizens to protect themselves with firearms, and removing gun free zones. The gun free zone did not deter the killer. The people who were disarmed by those zones obeyed they signs and were killed. But we all know this isn’t about public safety. It’s about enslaving the public with the false promise of public safety.
